Khaberni - Since the launch of Apple Vision Pro in February 2024, the absence of the official YouTube app remained one of the most prominent question marks about the platform.
But the scene finally changed when Google launched the YouTube app dedicated to the visionOS system, making it officially available through the App Store.
According to a report by the tech news site 9to5Mac, users of the glasses can now download the original app and benefit from a comprehensive viewing experience within the mixed reality environment.
When the glasses were first introduced, Google had indicated that supporting Vision Pro was in its future plans, but at that time, it asked users to rely on the "Safari" browser to access YouTube.
This temporary solution was not sufficient for a complete experience, making the absence of the official app a subject of criticism by some users.
As the gap continued, third-party apps emerged on the App Store, but a number of them were later removed following complaints from Google to Apple for violating YouTube guidelines.
Starting Thursday, the equation has changed; Vision Pro users can now run YouTube through an app fully dedicated to the visionOS system, giving them direct access to the platform's core features, such as subscriptions, viewing history, and playlists, as well as the short video service "Shorts".
The support goes beyond traditional viewing, extending to the playback of 3D videos, 360-degree videos, and "VR180" content, with the possibility of display within the integrated environments of the system, enhancing the immersive viewing experience.
The app also offers the possibility to watch videos at 8K resolution, although this feature remains exclusive to the Apple Vision Pro M5 version, according to 9to5Mac's report.
With this launch, YouTube officially joins the ecosystem of apps supporting the Apple Vision Pro glasses, after two years of absence, opening a new chapter in the video experience within the mixed reality world.
