Robot for Companionship
Unlike most robots that are designed to increase productivity or replace human labor, Abi has been developed to be a social companion for the elderly at home or in care facilities.
The goal of this robot is to provide psychological support, as it can speak more than 90 languages, express various emotions, and even organize entertainment activities such as dance parties.
The development of the robot began during the COVID-19 pandemic when Andromeda Robotics sought to find a way to overcome social isolation. Since then, the project has evolved into a comprehensive product that focuses on emotional communication rather than industrial performance.
Addressing Isolation
The launch of Abi responds to a growing problem, as estimates suggest that a significant percentage of the elderly and those in care facilities do not receive regular visits from family or friends.
In this context, the Abi robot fills this gap, providing the elderly with a sense of care and connection, which contributes to improving their daily quality of life. Notably, to make it more approachable and acceptable to users, especially the elderly, Abi is designed to resemble a lively cartoon character.
Robot Specifications
Abi features a design close to the human form, standing about 120 centimeters tall, making it suitable for direct interaction with the elderly whether sitting or standing.
It also has the ability to move its head and eyes and express gestures, enhancing the sense of real communication and making interactions with it more natural. The robot relies on a sophisticated mix of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision technologies, which enables it to recognize people, remember previous conversations, and interact based on each user's personality.
It is important to note that Abi's role is not limited to conversation only; it can participate in entertainment activities such as singing, games, and dancing, in addition to providing customized emotional support for each individual, making it closer to a smart companion than just a technical device.
