Habits and Diseases Associated with Dry Skin

Khaberni - Dr. Irina Volgina, Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Education, points out that dry skin can result from both external and internal factors.
According to her, factors affecting skin dryness include poor skincare, climatic conditions, vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, poor nutrition, and some medical conditions.

She explains: "Internal causes include firstly poor nutrition and deficiency of vitamins and minerals, in addition to excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates and trans fats. Insufficient water intake is also a contributing factor; for example, drinking coffee without compensating with water can lead to dehydration. Secondly, smoking."

As for the third factor, she refers to chronic diseases such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, and diabetes, in addition to thyroid and digestive system diseases. Skin dryness can also occur due to improper use of certain medications, such as diuretics, retinoids, and other drugs.
