Khaberni - The Levant region is experiencing notably varied weather conditions today, Friday, where most areas are impacted by a low-pressure system, causing heavy rainfall across wide parts of northern Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, while central and southern Jordan and Palestine are experiencing a dense dust storm.
Satellite images have shown rapid developments in the weather situation, with parts of the north experiencing heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, while a dust wave from North Africa, specifically from Libya, is moving towards central and southern areas, causing a significant drop in horizontal visibility.
Effects of the dust storm and rainfall
The Wasem Regional Center stated that the dust storm is causing reduced visibility on desert and external roads, in addition to its negative effects on respiratory patients and the elderly, while advising the necessity of closing windows during the presence of dust and using masks when going out.
It added that the heavy rains in northern Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon may occasionally be accompanied by thunder, with the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas, urging citizens to be cautious while driving.
Forecasts for this and next week
It is expected that the dust wave will gradually recede with a decline in rain during the day, with the weather stabilizing completely on Sunday and Monday, along with a noticeable rise in temperature while the suspended dust remains in the air.
Wasem Center noted that another weather depression will affect the region in the middle of next week, leading to rainfall again in Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, with heavy rains expected in wide areas of Syria and Lebanon, while dust conditions continue with varying intensity in some areas.
It confirmed that the end of this week and the beginning of next week will witness the approach of a strong polar wave, considered the peak of this year's rainy season, and it is expected to lead to a complete reversal of the weather in terms of temperature drop and increased rain and snow in the highlands, with precise details to be issued in the coming days.

Be cautious while driving on open roads and desert areas due to reduced visibility.
Protect the elderly and those with respiratory and eye conditions from the effects of dust.
