Health Warns of Risks of Dust Wave and Calls for Compliance with Preventive Measures

Khaberni - The Director of Health Awareness and Media at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Gaith Oweis, warned of the health repercussions of the dust wave the kingdom is experiencing today, indicating that the spread of dust increases the risk of respiratory problems and eye irritation in various groups, especially those most at risk such as asthma patients, children, and the elderly.
Oweis stated in an announcement to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) today, Saturday, that inhaling dust leads to irritation of the mucous membranes in the respiratory system, causing severe coughing, sneezing, and shortness of breath, in addition to itching and redness in the eyes and may contribute to skin dryness.
He explained that dust waves could also exacerbate asthma attacks and sinusitis, and intensify symptoms in those with respiratory diseases.
He called on citizens to stay indoors as much as possible, especially during peak dust spread times, with tightly closing windows, doors, and openings to limit the entry of dust, and to make sure to clean surfaces regularly using a damp cloth to reduce the accumulation of dust inside homes.
He emphasized the need to wear a protective mask that tightly covers the nose and mouth when going out, avoid prolonged outdoor activities, affirming the importance of carrying medically prescribed asthma inhalers for asthma patients at all times, and visit the nearest health center or hospital in case of severe respiratory symptoms.
Oweis stressed the need to prevent children from playing outside during dusty weather, to protect them from direct exposure to dust, pointing out that adhering to the preventive guidelines contributes to reducing health complications and protects the most sensitive groups from potential risks.
