Details of the Sighting of the Crescent of Ramadan 1447 AH in Saudi Arabia

Khaberni  - The Hawtat Sudair astronomical observatory disclosed that the astronomical conjunction of the crescent of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH will occur – according to the Umm al-Qura calendar calculation – at 3:03 PM Riyadh time on Tuesday, 29 Sha'ban 1447 AH, corresponding to February 17, 2026 AD, and that the crescent will set just two minutes after the sun in a number of locations in Saudi Arabia.

The observatory clarified, in a statement published on its official account on the "X" platform, that it will monitor the crescent of Ramadan on that day, with presenting scientific data related to the possibility of sighting.

The statement indicated that the sun will set in Mecca at 6:20 PM, while the crescent will set at 6:23 PM, meaning a lag of approximately three minutes after sunset.

The Data in Hawtat Sudair

At the observatory site in Hawtat Sudair, the sun sets at 5:52 PM at 257 degrees, while the crescent sets at 5:54 PM at 256 degrees, with a lag estimated at only two minutes.
The observatory explained that the crescent will be at an elevation of 0.5 degrees and an elongation of 1.61 degrees, which are astronomical data reflecting the accuracy of the calculations related to determining the possibility of sighting, according to accepted scientific standards.
The observatory confirmed that the sighting will be conducted field-wise at its site in Hawtat Sudair, as part of its scientific efforts in supporting the astronomical determination, with the clarification that the announcement of the entry of the blessed month is subject to the competent authorities.
