JordanianSyrian Discussions in Istanbul to Enhance Road Transport and Railway Connectivity Projects

Khaberni - Jordanian Minister of Transport, Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin, met his Syrian counterpart, Dr. Yarub Badr, on the sidelines of the second conference of Transport and Communications Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Istanbul.
The meeting was within the framework of coordination and consultation to address the new challenges that have arisen in the truck movements between the two countries, and to explore ways to enhance the fluidity of road transport to serve the interests of transporters and traders.
Both sides emphasized that direct transport to the ultimate destination forms the fundamental pillar of the transport and trade system, due to its ability to reduce operational costs, speed up the arrival time of goods, and increase the efficiency of supply chains between countries.
The ministers stressed the importance of intensifying joint efforts to find practical and effective solutions at the current circumstances at the Jaber and Nassib crossings, which would enable the return to the direct transport system and contribute to reactivating road freight movement and restoring its natural fluidity between the two countries.
The parties agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation frameworks in various transport fields and develop technical and administrative coordination mechanisms, which positively reflect on the movement of inter-trade and improve the level of logistical services provided.
Regarding the railway sector, the ministers emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of joint railway connection projects, considering them as strategic priorities that support the transport of goods and passengers. Discussions also covered the comprehensive railway connection project between Turkey and the Arab Gulf states via Syria and Jordan, in addition to discussing the feasibility of utilizing the Hejaz railway line for goods transport as a supportive option for the regional transport system.
The meeting concluded with a confirmation of the continued communication and coordination between the technical authorities in both countries to achieve sustainable solutions that enhance integration.
