Khaberni - The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on the general consumer price index (inflation), which was 1.06% for the month of January in the year 2026 compared to the corresponding month in 2025.
According to a press release from the Statistics, the inflation increased by 0.17% (less than one percentage point) compared with December 2025.
The general consumer price index for January 2026 reached 113.42 compared to 112.23 for the same month in 2025, and the index for January 2026 was 113.42 compared to 113.22 for the previous month of 2025.
In terms of commodity groups, the main contributors to the rise in the general consumer price index for January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025 were the "personal belongings" group by 38.92%, "oils and fats" by 13.45%, "tea, coffee, and cocoa" by 12.02%, "fruits and nuts" by 4.23%, and "tobacco and cigarettes" by 3.99%, while the "meats and poultry" group decreased it by (9.80%), and "vegetables, dried and canned legumes" by (6.27%), "home appliances" by (3.28%), and "household tools" by (1.07%).
Among the prominent commodity groups that contributed to the rise in the general consumer price index for January 2026 compared to December 2025 were "personal belongings" by 5.38%, "tobacco and cigarettes" by 3.98%, "water and sewage" by 3.78%, "vegetables, dried and canned legumes" by 1.85%, and "meats and poultry" by 0.97%.
It should be noted that the calculation of the consumer price index (inflation) is based on a basket of consumption goods that includes (850) items including (325) food items and (525) non-food items.
