Khaberni - Syrian director Samer Al Barqawi reveals a striking surprise in Ramadan drama 2026, announcing that the title track of the series "Mawlana" will be sung by the esteemed artist Mona Wassef, in a step that marks her first experience singing the theme of a drama in which she stars.
The announcement coincided with Mona Wassef's birthday celebration, as Al Barqawi posted on his official Facebook account a picture from the series' title sequence, captioned "Mawlana.. title track sung by Mona Wassef".
Al Barqawi included an impactful comment that read "For your birthday, we gifted you before you could gift us… may our oak tree live long", referring to her artistic and human stature. Music composer Ari Jean Sarhan also shared the news, considering presenting the title track in Mona Wassef's voice "a pride and responsibility".
The series Mawlana carries a human story with symbolic overtones, revolving around the character Jabir, a man who escapes his past and society, and invents a daring ploy by impersonating a spiritual lineage, which reignites hope in a forgotten village that had been waiting for its leader for decades. As events escalate, the deception transforms into an energy of change, awakening the villagers' determination to endure and survive.
The role of Jabir is played by Syrian actor Tim Hassan, and he is joined by a cast of Syrian drama stars, including Noor Ali and Fares Al Halou, along with Mona Wassef herself, Nancy Khoury, Jirjis Jabbara, Jamal Al Ali, Alaa Al Zoubi, and Hima Ismail.
The series Mawlana is written by Syrian writer Lubna Mishalh, directed by Samer Al Barqawi, produced by Sabbah brothers company, and is expected to be one of the biggest surprises of the upcoming Ramadan season, not only for its story and stars but also for Mona Wassef's return, this time with her voice, in a title track that carries the weight of the experience and the depth of the artistic presence of one of the icons of Arab drama.
