Consumer Protection launches a supervisory plan for Ramadan to monitor prices and receive citizens complaints

Khaberni - The National Association for Consumer Protection announced the start of its plan for the blessed month of Ramadan this year, which includes monitoring the prices of basic and Ramadan goods before the beginning of the holy month, and comparing them with the beginning of it.

The Association stated in a statement today, Tuesday, that the plan includes receiving observations and complaints from citizens and following them up with the relevant official bodies and sending awareness messages to Jordanian families.

The President of the Association, Dr. Mohammad Obaidat, called on consumers to adjust and change their purchasing and consumption patterns, in a way that reduces waste and extravagance during the holy month.

He also called on the regulatory official bodies to increase and intensify field visits to the markets in all provinces of the kingdom, to verify commodity prices without exaggeration or exploiting the needs of the citizens.

He indicated that the purchasing power of the citizens necessitates changing their purchasing priorities, with the necessity of not buying and storing goods in large quantities exceeding their need, because storage will cause an imbalance between the offered and demanded quantities, and therefore may cause an increase in their prices, in addition to that long-term storage will lead to their spoilage.

He emphasized the need to change negative consumption habits, modify and change the purchasing and consumption pattern and be satisfied with one type of food on the table in order to empathize with poor and needy families and support them by providing parcels of goodness and financial and in-kind assistance.

He explained that field visits will be conducted to the markets to monitor and follow up on the price index of goods used by citizens daily during the blessed month of Ramadan, the extent of their availability in the markets in sufficient quantities and moderate prices and high quality, and alerting citizens to the necessity of verifying the validity of the goods for use and consumption, paying attention to the accuracy of their weights and seeking alternatives.
And he called on the regulatory bodies to impose the severest penalties against anyone who dares to exploit the families' need for goods during the holy month, from those who raise prices unjustly or sell food goods unfit for human consumption.
