Khaberni - U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that President Donald Trump will be the one to draw the "red lines" in the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran, asserting that the final decision on the Iranian file lies solely with the President.
JD Vance added in statements that Trump intends to conduct a series of discussions with members of his negotiating team to evaluate the available options before deciding on the next steps with Iran.
American and Iranian diplomats engaged in talks mediated by Oman last weekend, aiming to provide a new opportunity for diplomacy amid an increasing buildup of U.S. naval forces near Iran and Tehran's threats of a strong response in case of an attack.
These talks follow a widespread crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran last month, which resulted in thousands of deaths.
No date or venue for the next round of talks has been announced yet.
Iranian President Masoud Bazshakian stated that a new round of talks would be an "appropriate opportunity for a fair and balanced resolution to this issue," and that a desirable outcome could be reached if the United States avoided hardline positions and respected its commitments.
He added that Iran would continue to demand the lifting of sanctions and insist on its nuclear rights, including enrichment.
Iran and the United States held 5 rounds of talks last year aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear program, but the process faltered due to disagreements primarily over uranium enrichment in Iran.
Trump also joined an Israeli bombing campaign last year, targeting Iranian nuclear sites. Last month, he also threatened military intervention during the protests, before ultimately backing down.
