Jordan  Greater Amman Municipality announces special instructions for Ramadan tents for the year 2026

Khaberni - The Greater Amman Municipality announced on Sunday the instructions and conditions for setting up Ramadan tents for the year 2026.

The instructions clarified that no Ramadan tent may be erected unless the necessary permit is obtained from the Greater Amman Municipality, and approval is obtained from the Governor of the Capital and the Ministry of Tourism for tourist facilities.

The Municipality specified in the instructions issued that the working hours in the Ramadan tents should be from Maghreb (sunset) call to prayer until the time to serve Suhour.

The conditions required that the tent or canopy be made of good quality material resistant to weather conditions, that all public safety conditions are available, that neighbors are not disturbed or traffic movement obstructed, adherence to the permit period, and dismantling of the tent within three days from the expiry of its term.

It also stipulated that the permit be placed in a prominent place inside the tent or be kept and shown upon request. The Greater Amman Municipality has full right to terminate the permit and remove the tent in case of violation of the conditions or if there are genuine complaints.

The instructions emphasized that the tent must be part of a commercially licensed premises under the classification of a tourist restaurant, cafeteria, coffee shop, traditional cafe, or restaurant category of cafe and hotel, and it must be adjacent to the premises and form a part of it. The establishment of Ramadan tents in organized residential areas shall not be allowed, except for hotels.

In the case where the establishment is located within a local commercial arrangement, it is required that it be situated away from the nearest inhabited residential area by a distance of not less than 200 meters and be away from places of worship and hospitals by no less than 250 meters.

The instructions and conditions also required providing sufficient parking spaces with valet services, provision of sanitary facilities for males and females, non-serving of alcoholic drinks and alcohol, adherence to the licensed profession of the premises by not serving shisha in tents belonging to premises not licensed for shisha service, and adherence to the health ministry's instructions regarding the premises licensed for offering shisha. Additionally, no persons under the age of 18 are to be admitted unless accompanied by relatives, and compliance with order and public decency is mandatory.

In relation to tents specially designated for "bakeries and confectionery shops", the instructions allowed commercially licensed businesses in the bakery and confectionery trade to set up a tent for the purpose of preparing and selling Qatayef without incurring utilization fees, provided that the tent is adjacent to the bakery and forms part of it, complies with environmental and health conditions, does not exploit sidewalks, and provides insurances or a bank check valued at 100 dinars as guarantees for compliance with the instructions and dismantling the tent within three days from the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Regarding shops commercially licensed to sell electrical equipment, the instructions allowed the establishment of a Ramadan tent for the display and sale of lanterns and decorations related to the holy month of Ramadan, provided that the tent is adjacent to the shop or erected on an empty piece of land not connected to the shop regardless of its size, with the condition of obtaining the consent of the landowner and not causing traffic disruptions.

It is also required to provide insurances or a bank check valued at 200 dinars as guarantees for compliance with the instructions and dismantling of the tent within three days from the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.

According to the instructions, an application to obtain a tent must be submitted at the relevant district, accompanied by a copy of the professional license of the applicant, where an inspection of the site by the concerned departments will be carried out. The authority to decide on granting the permit resides with the district managers. The duration of the permit is one month only (during the month of Ramadan) for all tents.
