Brazil São Paulo police disguise as aliens to catch criminals

Khaberni - In an unconventional move, São Paulo police officers dressed in alien costumes during the "Ivete Sangalo" carnival events, at Ibirapuera Park on Saturday to arrest three men suspected of selling counterfeit alcoholic beverages.

According to "CNN Brazil" reports, the operation was carried out while the officers mingled among the celebrators, managing to catch the men selling the illegally manufactured beverages, which bore no trademarks or labels, and were immediately confiscated.

At the same time, another man accused of stealing mobile phones was arrested, found with three phones hidden inside his pants. The suspect confessed to the police that he was acting as a "guard for the stolen phones" on behalf of others.

This operation is part of the police efforts to enhance security during the carnival events in São Paulo, which annually attracts thousands of participants, specifically targeting the crimes of selling counterfeit drinks and mobile phone theft.

The authorities confirmed that this unconventional monitoring method helped in discovering crimes in real-time without causing panic among the participants, as well as helped in reducing the risks associated with large gatherings.

It is noted that the São Paulo police typically rely on a mix of visible patrols, covert surveillance, and modern technologies to ensure the safety of the celebrants during the annual carnival.
