Grandson of Hassan alBanna Sentenced for Raping Three Women

Khaberni - The Paris Criminal Court sentenced the Swiss Islamic thinker Tariq Ramadan on Wednesday to 18 years in prison, for raping three women.

Ramadan, a religious Islamic scholar and a controversial preacher of Egyptian origin, grandson of Hassan al-Banna the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood directly from his mother’s side, was convicted of rape and raping a vulnerable person.

Judge Corinne Gotzmann, who presided over the session, stated that "consenting to have sexual intercourse does not imply consent to any sexual act at all."

She ordered him to be under judicial supervision for eight years, particularly prohibiting him from contacting the victims and from publishing any work or audio-visual work or public involvement related to this crime.

The court also sentenced him to a permanent ban from entering French territories, once his punishment term ends.

In 2024, a Swiss appellate court sentenced Ramadan to three years in prison, including one with enforcement, for charges of rape and coercion into sexual relations, after his acquittal in the primary court.

Ramadan, who is popular yet controversial, especially among secular advocates who see him as a supporter of political Islam, denies any sexual act and claims he is the victim of a "plot."
