After being away from the Ramadan television drama competition for about 13 years, the artist Mohamed Sobhy has chosen to return to Ramadan drama, but through the gateway of radio, through the new radio series "Temporarily Suspended".
Recently, he has started recording episodes inside the Egyptian Radio studios in Maspero, in an artistic comeback that this time comes in a different audio format from his usual television presence.
Social Comedy
The series "Temporarily Suspended" falls within the framework of social comedy, as it tells the story of Grandfather Fakhri, a retired anesthesiologist who still lives according to the rhythm and values of a bygone age, in contrast to his children and grandchildren who see that those values are no longer in tune with their contemporary reality. Amidst this difference in perspectives, a hidden aspect of the grandfather's personality is revealed, which he had documented in old encrypted memoirs, whose importance the family members did not realize at first.
As the grandfather faces a health crisis that affects his memory, these memoirs turn into a key to understanding his personal history, and a tool for approaching his condition on both the human and psychological levels.
The events escalate when one of the grandchildren suggests turning the memoirs into an artistic work, through which scenes from the grandfather's life are reenacted, intertwining real events with theatrical performance. Through this path, the series discusses issues of values, relationships, and ambition within the family.
The series stars artist Mohamed Sobhy, along with Mohamed Abou Dawood, Abdel Rahim Hassan, Reham Ibrahim, and Sherif Mohsen, and is written and directed by Ayman Fatihah.
Health Crises
In November 2025, Egyptian artist Mohamed Sobhy was hospitalized due to a health crisis that required his transfer to the intensive care unit, before his condition stabilized later and he was moved to a regular room, with medical advice recommending several weeks of rest.
These developments came after he experienced symptoms including convulsions and repeated vomiting, which necessitated that he be placed under medical observation and receive intensive healthcare for several days.
At that time, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that Abdel Fattah al-Sisi directed Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar to monitor the health condition of artist Mohamed Sobhy, while confirming in an official statement the continuous monitoring of his health condition and the preparation of periodic reports to ensure he receives the best levels of care.
This was the second health crisis that the artist Mohamed Sobhy, aged 77, has experienced in a short period, as he had previously undergone a similar health crisis about two months earlier, which also required his hospitalization for treatment.
Dramatic Absence and Theatrical Presence
Mohamed Sobhy's return through his new radio series marks a return to the Ramadan competition after an absence of about 13 years, since presenting the eighth part of the series "Wanis" titled "Wanis and the People and the State of the Country".
Mohamed Sobhy has also been absent from cinema since the 1990s, and in 2022 announced a new cinematic project, which however did not materialize, justifying this in press statements by his desire to present works that carry real artistic value.
In recent years, Mohamed Sobhy has focused on his theatrical project, presenting a number of works, including "Me, the Bee and the Hornet", "Stars of Noon", and "A Family Blocked".
