Margot Robbie Goes Through Failed Romance in Wuthering Heights

Khaberni - Australian actress Margot Robbie reveals details of her new romantic film «Wuthering Heights», describing the work as delving into a dark and painful love story based on complex and contradictory feelings that doom its protagonists from the start.

Robbie said her character «Cathy» and the character «Heathcliff», played by actor Jacob Elordi, are in a relationship doomed to collapse, noting that their motives and actions in this new version are marked by cruelty and despair, and described the relationship as «sadistic and emotionally charged to the extreme».

The star of the film «Barbie» added: «I think they are just lovers doomed to fail in their life together», referring to the tragic nature that dominates the course of events.

The film is set to be released by «Warner Brothers Pictures», directed by British director Emerald Fennell, in cinemas worldwide on February 11, coinciding with Valentine's Week, reviving one of the most famous romantic stories in world literature, which has often been presented with different artistic visions.

The origins of the story go back to the novel by writer Emily Bronte, published in 1847, which has inspired generations of filmmakers, theater practitioners, and musicians, due to its psychological and social complexities related to class, privilege, and the inner conflicts that are destructive to the characters of Cathy and Heathcliff.

Robbie pointed out an interesting irony, saying that she and her colleague Elordi both hail from the Australian state of Queensland, yet they play two English characters from the most famous icons of literature, adding jokingly: «But here we are».

The story begins when Cathy's father decides to adopt the child Heathcliff, allowing the two to grow up together and form a strong relationship, before class differences and personal ambitions intervene to separate them. Director Emerald Fennell aims to present the work in a sensual visual style, including intense intimate scenes, similar to what she has offered in her previous works.
