Khaberni - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton called on Friday for a public hearing session after he and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared their intention to testify in the investigation by the House Oversight and Reform Committee concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
His call for a public hearing came one day after Hillary Clinton called for the same, amid Republican Representative James Comer's insistence so far on hearing their testimonies behind closed doors, recorded on video and transcribed.
She is scheduled to testify on February 26th, followed by the former Democratic president the next day.
"Who benefits?"
Bill Clinton wrote on the X platform, "I will not stand idly by while they use me as a pawn in a closed sham court run by the panicked Republican party. If they want answers, let's end this farce and do it the right way: in a public hearing, where the American people can see for themselves the truth."
Clinton said, "Who benefits from this arrangement? Not Epstein's victims, who deserve justice. Not the public, who deserve the truth. It serves only partisan interests. This is not fact-finding, it is purely political."
The former president pointed out that he demanded "full disclosure" of the Department of Justice files related to Epstein, and that he agreed to appear before the committee personally.
But he wrote, "Yet, this is still not enough for the Republicans in the House Oversight Committee," sharply criticizing Comer's desire to use the camera "only behind closed doors."
The Clintons have repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein's crimes. Furthermore, none of Epstein's victims has accused Bill Clinton of any wrongdoing.
