Khaberni - The Jordan Valley Authority personnel, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, managed on Thursday to control the rising water levels of the King Abdullah Canal in the northern Shuna area, caused by the rainfall.
The Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Al-Haysa, stated that the rise in the canal's water levels followed the rainfall during the recent weather depression, which resulted in the flow of large quantities of water.
He explained that the Jordan Valley Authority immediately activated the emergency plan in coordination with the administrative governor of the Northern Jordan Valley and the relevant bodies, and all necessary measures were taken to handle the incident, which prevented the water from invading the homes adjacent to the canal. Various preventive measures were undertaken following the rise in the water levels.
The Commissioner of the Northern Jordan Valley District, Khaled Al-Kasasbeh, clarified that the rise in water levels was due to the flow of large quantities of water from the north of the canal in the Adasiya area, coinciding with maintenance work on the canal course in the northern Shuna, including concrete casting and canal cleaning, which resulted in the drainage pipes' inability to absorb those quantities.
He added that the authority's immediate response and coordination with the civil defense devices and the implementation of urgent protective measures that included safe water discharge, helped control the water flow and prevented any material damages or losses. He pointed out that the canal water reached the courtyards of 3 houses and was dealt with in record time, confirming that work is ongoing to inspect various technical points and canal escapes at the site to ensure optimal water flow.
