Jordan Drones to monitor environmental violations at recreational sites

Khaberni - Deputy Director of the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection in the Public Security Directorate, Colonel Ibrahim Al-Rajoub, stated on Thursday that the Kingdom witnesses significant activity in picnic movements during spring and summer seasons with increased attendance in forested areas, beaches, reserves, and general picnic areas, including tourist and archaeological sites, as well as dam surroundings.

Al-Rajoub added, during his talk on the "Voice of the Kingdom" program, that these activities sometimes witness inappropriate behaviors, notably random disposal of waste and littering in non-designated places, leading to accumulation and causing environmental pollution, as well as affecting the aesthetic appearance of the sites.

He pointed out that, under directions from the Director of Public Security, a precise security and environmental plan has been prepared to ensure the safety of picnickers and preserve the environment at the same time.

Al-Rajoub explained that the Public Security Directorate provides operational mechanisms to achieve complete security and environmental control, including foot and mobile patrols, joint patrols, and the usage of drones and modern electronic technologies, as part of the executive program for the cleanliness strategy and reducing random waste disposal that has been launched.

He clarified that the directorate performs its role within two main axes: law enforcement and environmental education and awareness.

Regarding the axis of law enforcement and operational procedures, Al-Rajoub explained that through the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection, traffic directorates, and various field units, the Public Security Directorate works on controlling violations related to random waste disposal, whether pursuant to traffic laws when waste is thrown from vehicles or under the waste management framework law when disposed of in non-designated places, or under the Aqaba environmental protection regulation and the Aqaba Marine Reserve protection system.

He confirmed that all field units carry out environmental and awareness campaigns in picnic sites, touristic and archaeological locations across different provinces of the Kingdom, aiming to ensure the safety and security of picnickers, and to preserve the cleanliness and beauty of these sites.

The Public Security Directorate emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public places, avoiding negative behaviors that were noticed during the past end-of-week holiday, including littering and setting fires in non-designated places, and the necessity to keep picnic sites clean.

It indicated that employees of the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection have observed a significant number of environmental violations in parks, touristic, and archaeological sites, and legal actions have been taken against the violators, alongside cleaning campaigns executed by municipalities and the Amman Municipality to remove the remnants left by picnickers.

At the same time, the Public Security Directorate appreciates the commitment of many citizens who have demonstrated high awareness and responsibility in preserving the environment, emphasizing that this cooperation is fundamental in protecting the beauty of nature and its sustainability for everyone.
