Ministry of Interior and UNHCR consider increasing voluntary return assistance for Syrians

Khaberni - The Ministry of Interior revealed that it is currently conducting a study and research with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to increase the value of cash assistance (currently $100) for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees in the Zaatari and Azraq camps, who wish to return to their country.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Abdel Karim Abu Dalu, responding to inquiries from "Al-Mamlaka," said that the ministry has taken measures to facilitate the voluntary return process for Syrian refugees, including the adoption of the special Syrian community service card to leave Jordan, for those who do not hold travel documents to their countries.

Abu Dalu pointed out that the ministry allowed a Syrian refugee wishing to leave voluntarily to take his personal furniture back to his country.

He indicated that the number of Syrian refugees who left Jordan voluntarily to their country from December 8, 2024, until January 31, 2026, reached 184,827 refugees.

According to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees data in Jordan, the number of registered refugees reached about 444,000 by the end of last month, of which 413,000 are Syrian refugees, accounting for 94% of the total refugees in the kingdom.

The UNHCR emphasized that the return to Syria remains a completely personal and voluntary choice, confirming that it does not promote return nor does it push refugees to make this decision, but rather limits its role to providing the necessary information and support for every refugee to make their decision freely, based on a full understanding of the conditions inside Syria.
