Khaberni - Two American officials reported that senior American and Israeli generals held discussions at the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) on Friday amid rising tensions with Iran.
The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not provide details about the closed-door talks between U.S. General Dan Kin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces. This meeting had not been previously announced.
The United States has boosted its naval presence and elevated its air defenses in the Middle East after President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened Iran, attempting to pressure it to come to the negotiation table. The Iranian leadership warned on Sunday of a regional conflict if the United States launched an attack on Iran.
The office of the Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, stated that he met with Zamir on Sunday following his talks in Washington, to review the situation in the region and "the operational readiness of the Israeli military for any potential scenario."
