After launching a security operation against drug dealers in a Turkish province located in the southeast of the country, security authorities managed to seize a large quantity of drugs, the first of its kind this year, which sparked widespread controversy in Turkish circles, according to a high-ranking government official.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on his official account on the X platform (formerly Twitter) the seizure of dozens of kilograms of methamphetamine, in a security operation carried out by the drug enforcement police in the province of Şırnak, located in the southeast of the country.
According to the Turkish minister, 142 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized during this operation, which is the largest amount of drugs seized by Turkish authorities in the year 2026, causing controversy in the country about the large quantity seized.
Yerlikaya confirmed that the fight against drugs will continue after the security operation carried out this Sunday morning in Şırnak city as part of combating drug smuggling and trafficking, where the driver of the truck transporting the drugs was detained.
The Turkish minister also mentioned that the driver is suspected of drug trafficking, as stated in an official statement he published on the X platform, where he also stated "the fight against drugs is not just a matter of domestic security; it is a battle of global security."
He added: "We have declared an all-out war on drugs! We are waging this war not just for our country, but for all humanity. I commend the police administration and everyone who contributed to these efforts."
