AlShara and Barzani Discuss Cooperation to Implement Damascus Agreement with SDF

Khaberni - Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa discussed with the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, ways of cooperation that would contribute to the implementation of the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces "SDF" during a phone call on Saturday, according to a statement issued by the Syrian presidency.

The Syrian presidency stated that Al-Shara and Barzani discussed recent developments in Syria.

It added that Al-Shara emphasized the Syrian state's commitment to the Kurdish people’s national, political, and civil rights during the call.

The Syrian President also stressed that all Syrians are equal before the law and enjoy equal rights.

Blessing the Agreement
On his part, Barzani expressed his blessing for the comprehensive agreement between the Syrian government and SDF forces, stressing the necessity of its implementation to ensure the unity and stability of Syria, according to the presidency’s statement.

Both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination that contributes to the implementation of the agreement and the achievement of stability in Syria and the region during the call.

Ceasefire
The Syrian government announced on Friday a ceasefire agreement with the SDF forces as part of a comprehensive agreement, along with an understanding on a gradual integration process of military and administrative forces between the two sides.

The agreement also stipulates the entry of security forces into the centers of the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli in the northeast of the country, and the handover of all civil, government institutions, and border crossings and checkpoints to the state.

The agreement aims to unify Syrian territories and enforce the law, achieving the full integration in the region through enhancing cooperation between relevant parties and uniting efforts to rebuild the country.

On January 18, the Syrian government and SDF signed an agreement stipulating a ceasefire and the integration of elements and institutions of the organization within the state, but it was followed by new clashes, then reaching a ceasefire that resulted in a comprehensive ceasefire agreement.

The agreement followed a military operation launched by the Syrian army, during which it regained vast areas in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, following SDF's violations of previous agreements with Damascus.
