Bahrain launches Emergency Alerts system amid escalating regional tensions

Khaberni - The Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the start of the pilot operation of a unified electronic system for "emergency alerts" for all citizens and residents amid escalating tensions in the region.

In a statement, it said, "It was decided to launch the pilot operation of the emergency alert system, through all phones and smart devices at nine thirty on Saturday evening", without further details.

This step coincides with the escalation of American threats to launch a military strike against Iran, which has threatened a “decisive response,” amid fears that Tehran might target Israel and American bases in the region if attacked. It is worth noting that Bahrain hosts one of these bases.

On January 15, 2026, Bahraini Interior Minister Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired a comprehensive meeting reviewing the developments of the project "Wireless Early Warning Alerts for Emergencies".

According to Bahraini media at the time, the project provides necessary information to citizens and residents before, during, and after emergencies, ensuring coverage and receipt of all alerts in a timely manner.

Minister Rashid bin Abdullah, who is also the chairman of the Civil Defense Council, emphasized the necessity of piloting the system in phases and identifying the emergency fields it should operate within.

He pointed out that "developing early warning systems and ensuring the delivery of alerts to all segments of society using multiple means comes within the framework of comprehensive community awareness programs and the provision of updated data about risks and facilitating the exchange of information among relevant entities".

He expressed his "gratitude and appreciation for the council members and their role in developing mechanisms for cooperation and coordination aimed at enhancing preventive measures for civil protection and assessing the level of preparedness and readiness to face potential risks and increase safety rates for all citizens and residents", without specifying the nature of potential risks at that time.

The region is experiencing escalating tensions based on an unprecedented American military buildup in the Middle East, in preparation for a possible strike against Iran should it fail to comply with Washington's demands related to its nuclear and missile programs.

In this context, Trump renewed his threats to Iran, announcing that a "huge fleet" is advancing towards it and warning that it will face an "attack much worse" than what it suffered last year if it does not cooperate in negotiations concerning its nuclear file.

It should be noted that on June 13, 2025, Israel, with US support, launched an attack on Iran that lasted 12 days, targeting military, nuclear sites, and civilian facilities, as well as assassinating leaders and scientists, while Iran responded by targeting Israeli military and intelligence bases with missiles and drones.
