Toyota Retains Title as TopSelling Automaker in 2025

Khaberni - Toyota Motors retained the title of the world's largest automaker by sales for the sixth consecutive year, after selling 11.3 million vehicles globally during 2025, setting a new record.

The company said that global group sales increased by 4.6% compared to the previous year, and includes Lexus brand cars, as well as units from Daihatsu and Hino Motors for trucks.

German Volkswagen Group came in second as Toyota's competitor, after announcing this month a decrease in its sales by 0.5% in 2025 to just under 9 million vehicles, amid cost-cutting efforts in the German market and intensified competition in China.

Strong Demand

Toyota's sales growth was primarily driven by strong demand in the United States and Japan, which together accounted for more than two-fifths of the company's global sales.

Sales of Toyota and Lexus vehicles increased by 3.7% to reach 10.5 million vehicles, a record level, supported by the growing demand for hybrid vehicles in the American market.

Japanese exports to the United States jumped by 14.2% to about 615,000 vehicles.

In China, Toyota's sales recorded a slight increase of 0.2%, the first time in four years that it did not experience a decline, despite fierce competition in the world's largest car market.

Hybrid vehicles, running on gasoline and electricity, accounted for 42% of Toyota's total global sales, while the share of electric vehicles powered by batteries did not exceed 1.9%.
