Khaberni - Lebanese artist Amal Hejazi revealed details about her decision to remove the hijab, discussing her position on her previous song «Your Hijab is a Crown».
Lebanese artist Amal Hejazi discussed her decision to remove the hijab, explaining her view of this step and what it means to her, during an appearance on a television interview that covered various aspects of her artistic and personal experience. Amal Hejazi said in her speech: «I removed a piece of cloth that meant nothing to me, it might mean a lot to other people, but for me, it didn’t change anything in my relationship and my faith in God», indicating that her view on the matter differs from what others might see.
She also commented on her previous song that encouraged girls to wear the hijab, asserting: «He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone, now I wouldn’t do it, and I’m removing the song 'Your Hijab is a Crown' from my record», pointing out that a girl is beautiful with or without a hijab, and that the hijab is not a measure of her value.
The lyrics of the song «Your Hijab is a Crown» included phrases like: «Oh flower, why not show off your colors, and boast her hijab, oh energy of light no other, and the secret of her beauty inside, preserving the beauty in you, and in you chastity is a verse, your hijab illuminates you, your modesty alone is a story, do not be deceived by the world, do not compromise and give in, your hijab is a crown with the color of diamonds, it beautifies and enriches, protects you from gazes and elevates you in eyes, the test is hard but the Merciful will boast about you, live your life by this principle, please the Creator He will please you, in the midst of the world and suffering, your faith is what redeems you, the path of truth is cover and light, this is the gain and this is what benefits, this world won’t last, let heaven drive your motives».
Amal Hejazi had announced her decision to wear the hijab in September 2017, following her retirement from singing, elaborating that she was at that time experiencing a painful internal conflict between her love for art and her religious commitment, confirming that she felt close to God, and said: «I was experiencing an internal struggle where I was asking God for full guidance».
