WhatsApp Launches Advanced Security Feature for Maximum Protection Against Cyber Attacks

Khaberni - The messaging application "WhatsApp," owned by "Meta," revealed on Tuesday an advanced security feature called "Strict Account Settings."

"WhatsApp" stated in a blog post on Tuesday that this feature provides enhanced protection against rare and highly sophisticated cyber attacks, which some users, such as journalists and public figures, may need.

It added that when this feature is activated, some account settings will be locked to the most restrictive configurations, and WhatsApp's functionality will be limited in certain ways for the user, such as blocking attachments and media from people not in the user's contacts.

The "Strict Account Settings" can be activated by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Advanced.

"WhatsApp" stated that this new security feature will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, noting that it is one of many ways we work to protect you from the most advanced cyber threats.

With this new feature, "WhatsApp" joins a growing number of American tech companies that allow users to opt for stronger protection against hackers in exchange for a more restricted experience.

Growing Approach
"Meta" is the third major technology company to offer security enhancements to users most at risk, according to "Reuters".

In 2022, Apple launched "Lockdown Mode," which it describes as "optional maximum protection" designed for "a very few individuals" who might be targeted by sophisticated digital threats.

This mode, available for iPhone and Mac devices, disables most types of message attachments and link previews, and includes restrictions on "FaceTime" calls and web browsing.

Last year, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, began offering "Advanced Protection Mode" to users on the Android system.

Like "Lockdown Mode," Alphabet’s safer option sacrifices some functionalities in exchange for enhanced security, including preventing users from downloading apps that could be risky, and opening a new tab outside of its own Google Play store.
