Drilling 270 Wells for Rainwater Harvesting in Madaba

Khaberni  - The Director of Agriculture of Madaba Governorate, Bassem Abu Al-Ghanem, said that the Ministry of Agriculture drilled in the governorate last year 270 wells for collecting rainwater worth 411,000 dinars, as part of the ministry's policy of expanding well drilling and irrigation channels to make greater use of rainwater and utilize it in household plantations, thereby enhancing food security.

He added that the ministry is continuing the project this year, allocating 100,000 dinars from the governorate council's budget to expand the drilling of water collection wells based on approved standards.

He explained that the ministry implemented special projects related to women's development, dairy and cheese mills, and plastic houses in Madaba valued at 141,000 dinars, benefiting about 100 citizens from the Qasabah and Dhiban districts, in addition to projects of conduits for farmers valued at 10,000 dinars.

Abu Al-Ghanem further clarified that last year, the ministry implemented 6 afforestation projects which are the afforestation of Siyaga, Al-Arish, Al-Faisaliyah, Mount Nebo, and Ma'in with an area amounting to 430 dunams, planted with about 3,700 forest trees, in addition to 6,000 forage plants in Ma'in pastures reserve, with ongoing care and maintenance.
