Khaberni - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has launched the updated version of the water resource protection instructions for 2025.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Jihad Al-Mohamid, said that the version constitutes a precise regulatory framework that identifies the permitted, restricted, or prohibited areas and activities, based on technical maps and recent scientific studies.
He clarified that the instructions will serve as the primary reference to be circulated among all ministries and institutions for use in the preparation of comprehensive plans and the issuance of licenses for facilities and projects, ensuring the protection of water resource quality and integrity.
During the launch event attended by German Embassy representative Sara Thaqilq, and Laura Neuhoven from the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Al-Mohamid confirmed that the per capita annual water share in Jordan has decreased to less than 61 cubic meters to cover various needs, reflecting the exacerbation of water challenges facing the Kingdom.
He added that updating these instructions represents a strategic step to rebalance the water resources, especially groundwater, aiming to secure the needs of future generations and address the increasing water deficit.
For her part, Thaqilq stated that preserving water and ensuring its sustainability has become a national concern, requiring significant effort and collaboration from everyone, indicating that Germany is providing all forms of support to the water sector to meet these significant challenges.
In turn, BGR representative Laura Neuhoven confirmed that this updated version is the result of close technical cooperation with the ministry, aiming to implement the best standards in managing scarce water resources.
