Khaberni - The Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mohamed al-Halbousi, received on Tuesday a request from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to postpone the parliamentary session slated for Tuesday, which is designated for the election of the President.
The media office of the Speaker of the Council of Representatives reported that "Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi received a request from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to postpone the session scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, which is designated for the election of the President,” noting that "the request for postponement aims to allow more time for understanding and agreement between the two parties."
The media department of the Iraqi Council of Representatives stated in a release that "the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mohamed al-Halbousi, has set Tuesday for the presidential election session."
The Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that 19 candidates would compete for the presidency, according to the Iraqi News Agency "INA".
