Basic Rules for Influenza Prevention

Khaberni - The spread of influenza and acute viral respiratory infections increases during the cold season, hence it is essential to abide by specific rules for preventing influenza and its complications.
According to Dr. Vladislav Gimtchugov, a specialist in serious infectious diseases, the basic rule for prevention is to accurately choose clothing suitable for the weather, or else it might weaken the immune system, increasing the likelihood of an infection with severe consequences. Moreover, isolation is a fundamental factor in preventing the spread of viruses, so it is crucial that individuals showing symptoms of a cold should not go to work.

He says, "Employers should be flexible and allow employees to work from home for a few days if they show the first signs of a cold, to avoid infecting everyone in the office."

He notes that if a family member falls ill, using nasal drops as a preventative measure can be effective, as they are currently among the best treatments for external infections. Also, ventilating rooms is very important.
Regarding vaccination, it is important to know that immunity develops at least two weeks after receiving the vaccine, meaning its effects do not start immediately.

According to him, if symptoms of a viral respiratory infection appear, the first thing to do is to measure the temperature. It is important to keep it below 37.5 degrees Celsius, and if the patient experiences chills or a headache, they should prevent it from rising. By following this rule, the cold might disappear within a few days.

He adds, "If the patient manages to keep their temperature low, no complications will occur. However, if the symptoms do not disappear after three days, they should consider taking antibiotics, but only according to a doctor’s prescription."
