European club punishes coach for his loud celebration of Senegals victory

Khaberni - An unusual incident occurred in the Belgian league, where Ibrahim Sonko (45 years old), a member of the technical staff for the Oud-Heverlee Leuven club, faced an administrative penalty due to his excessive celebration of the Senegal national team's triumph in the African Nations Cup.

On the same night that the Senegal national team played the African Nations Cup final, Oud-Heverlee Leuven faced Sint-Truiden and lost the match with a score of 0-1, putting the club in a precarious position in the Belgian first division relegation battle.

Despite the tense atmosphere inside the team bus after the defeat, Sonko was preoccupied with watching the African final, experiencing moments of tension and great joy, culminating in Babacar Gueye's decisive goal and the coronation of the "Lions of Teranga."

According to Belgian press reports, Sonko disregarded the feelings of his team players and continued to celebrate Senegal's victory by singing and dancing inside the bus, which caused discontent among several Oud-Heverlee Leuven players who reported the matter to the club management.

In response, the management made a firm decision, as Sonko's responsibilities were limited, having previously been tasked with accompanying the first team and coaching young talents, his role will now be confined to working only with the under-23 team.

Oud-Heverlee Leuven currently holds the 14th position in the Belgian league with a total of 20 points after 21 rounds, placing them at risk of relegation to the second division.
