Khaberni - Portuguese José Mourinho has become the preferred candidate for Florentino Perez, President of Real Madrid, to succeed Alvaro Arbeloa as the technical director, according to "The Athletic".
Arbeloa, who was promoted from the reserve team in January to replace Xabi Alonso after he was sacked following the loss in the Spanish Super Cup against arch-rival Barcelona, is expected to leave at the end of the season.
Multiple sources, who requested anonymity as they were not authorized to comment, told "The Athletic" that the decision to choose the next coach for Real Madrid is personally managed by Perez.
This decision differs from the appointment of Alonso to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the end of last season, a process led by Real Madrid's general director José Angel Sanchez, but Perez agreed to it.
The report added that Perez wants to rebuild the team project which has declined, as Real Madrid prepares to finish its second consecutive season without winning any major titles such as La Liga, the Champions League, or the Copa del Rey.
The famous site continued: The club president is the main supporter for Mourinho's return, but some other voices within the club oppose that.
Returning to Santiago Bernabeu will give José Mourinho and Florentino Perez a chance to revive a relationship that yielded three titles between 2010 and 2013, including the La Liga title of 2011-2012 achieved with a record number of points, as they begin the quest to regain the title which the club has not won in the past two seasons.
The Champions League, which Mourinho won with Porto and Inter Milan, is the only title that was absent from the Spanish club's treasury during Mourinho's period.
The 63-year-old coach was a controversial figure in the dressing room during his time in Madrid, and tensions with then captain Iker Casillas were not well received by many fans and the media.
Mourinho faced widespread criticism this season for his comments after Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior claimed he was subjected to racial abuse by Benfica's Gianluca Mancini, during a Champions League match in Lisbon on February 17.
Mourinho hinted after the match that Vinicius Junior instigated the incident, before Mancini, who denied these claims, was suspended for six matches by UEFA for discriminatory behavior.
Mourinho, the former Portuguese manager of Chelsea and Manchester United, joined Benfica in September, and is tied to a contract until June 2027, which includes a clause worth about three million euros, allowing either party to terminate the contract up to ten days after the last match of this season.
