Khaberni - The Ministry of Public Works and Housing completed the implementation of the Tafilah road rehabilitation project towards Al-Karak Governorate/The Royal Road, spanning 17.5 km, through its paving with hot mix asphalt and equipping it with all traffic safety elements at a total cost of approximately one million and 900 thousand dinars.
This project is one of the most prominent infrastructure improvement projects on the main sections of the Royal Road announced during the Cabinet session held last year in Tafilah Governorate, as part of the government's plans to develop the main road network, reduce traffic obstacles and dangerous curves, and decrease accidents on the roads listed in last year's budgets.
Ammar Al-Hajjaj, Director of Tafilah Public Works Directorate, said that the project is one of the central bids announced by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and was included in last year's projects. He explained that the works included the rehabilitation and maintenance of the targeted area in both directions, modifying the cross-section of the road, performing the paving tasks using hot asphalt mixtures, removing existing asphalt layers, and preparing the road with the necessary layers according to the approved technical specifications.
He clarified that the project also included the implementation of traffic safety elements on the road sections such as signs, traffic signals, road painting, and installation of side protections, noting that its execution is part of the ministry's plans aimed at enhancing the efficiency and longevity of the Royal Road and improving safety levels to minimize accidents and facilitate the movement of citizens and visitors between the southern provinces.
He indicated that the road is constantly used by tourist groups as part of the Royal Road, a vital tourist route connecting several tourist sites in the south of the kingdom, as well as being a throughway linking several southern provinces, which enhances its economic, tourist, and service significance.
