Syrian Government Announces Its Receipt of AlAqtan Prison in Raqqa from SDF

Khaberni - The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced its receipt of Al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa province from "Syrian Democratic Forces" and confirmed that teams from the "Counter Terrorism Administration" took over the task of guarding the prison, according to what was reported by the official Syrian "Al-Ikhbariya" channel on Friday.

"Al-Ikhbariya" reported, citing the Syrian Ministry of Interior: "The Prisons and Reformations Department in the ministry recently took over Al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa province, which was under the control of the SDF organization", as it expressed.

The Ministry of Interior of Syria added, saying: "The administration immediately commenced a detailed and comprehensive inspection of the conditions of the prisoners and their personal and judicial files, with an emphasis on monitoring each file individually to ensure the application of legal procedures against all detainees".

The ministry continued, saying: "Specialized teams from the Counter Terrorism Administration and other relevant authorities were formed to take on the tasks of guarding and securing the prison and maintaining the security situation within it".

The ministry concluded its statement by saying: "The ministry affirms its full commitment to the principles of human rights and the rule of law and works on meticulously and methodically following everything related to the prisons, serving the public interest and enhancing security and stability".

The prisons and camps in northeastern Syria hold tens of thousands of ISIS prisoners and their families from dozens of countries, and many of them remain in a vague legal situation after their governments refused to repatriate them.

On Monday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that about 120 detainees had escaped from a prison that was under the control of "SDF", and stated on Tuesday that it had arrested 81 detainees, adding that "intense security efforts are ongoing to track the rest".
