Derailment of a passenger train near Barcelona killing the driver

Khaberni - An official in the Spanish Fire Service said that a passenger train derailed on Tuesday after a wall fell on the rail track due to heavy rains near Barcelona, resulting in the death of the driver and four others seriously injured.

The incident occurred two days after two high-speed trains collided and derailed near Adamuz in the province of Cordoba, killing 42 people.

Claudi Gallardo, an inspector in the Fire Service of Catalonia, stated in comments broadcast on television from the scene that 37 people were injured, four of them seriously, and the train driver died.

He added that all passengers exited the train.

The emergency authorities said that 20 ambulances were sent to the accident site in Gelida in the suburbs of Barcelona, along with 38 fire brigade units.

The accident occurred in an area that has long suffered from a lack of railway services and frequent accidents.
