France Refuses to Participate in the American Peace Council for Managing Gaza

Khaberni - A source close to French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that France "does not intend to respond positively" to the American invitation to join what is known as the "Peace Council" for Gaza, which was proposed by American President Donald Trump.

The source told Agence France-Presse that the council's charter "goes beyond the exclusive framework of the Gaza Strip", explaining that the invitation "raises major questions, particularly regarding the respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations, which cannot, under any circumstances, be compromised".

This French stance comes amid international controversy over the formation of the council which includes, in addition to the United States, countries like Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, in a move that has sparked widespread criticism in Israel where officials have regarded the decision as not pre-coordinated with Tel Aviv and threatening Israeli security interests.

The Peace Council is an American attempt to manage a transitional phase in Gaza under international supervision, however, Paris's refusal to participate illustrates European caution against compromising international legitimacy and the principles of the United Nations, amid ongoing tensions in the region.
