Khaberni - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has issued a public invitation to artists and athletes to take on their social responsibilities and engage in combating what he described as the "epidemic of the modern age", warning of the increase in phenomena of addiction, online betting and gambling, and privacy violations, which pose a direct threat to youth, family, and society.
Erdoğan emphasized that the Turkish government has started implementing a "comprehensive action plan" aimed at eliminating the scourge of online betting and gambling, stressing that this battle cannot be fought by state institutions alone, but requires broad participation from the community, especially influential figures whom the youth look up to, including artists and athletes.
In an event held in Istanbul, the Turkish president added that the rapid spread of technology and digital space culture has contributed to the emergence of serious challenges, including various forms of addiction, erosion of privacy, and attacks targeting the institution of the family and social values, explaining that these threats remain constant in their goals despite the change in their tools, and that their ultimate aim is humans and families.
He mentioned that addiction is no longer an individual problem, but has become a social crisis threatening millions of citizens, warning that ignoring these phenomena at early stages could lead to deeper crises in the future, adding, "If we do not defeat this epidemic early on, we may face larger and more complex social problems tomorrow."
