Irans Internet Breathing at 2 A Timid Return After 200 Hours of Disconnection

Khaberni - After a disconnection that lasted more than 200 hours due to protests and a corresponding repression campaign, the non-governmental organization «NetBlocks» monitoring the internet announced on Saturday that it had detected a "very slight" resumption of network activity in Iran.

The organization said in a post on its social media pages: "Measurements indicate a very slight increase in internet connectivity in Iran this morning after 200 hours".

It added: "Internet connectivity in general remains at about 2% of its normal levels, and there are no signs of significant improvement".

Human rights organizations have indicated that «the internet blackout, which began on January 8th, aims to hide the true scale of the repression».

According to the non-governmental and Norway-based organization «Human Rights in Iran» (Iran Human Rights), no less than 3428 protesters have been killed since the protests began in late December.

The protests in Iran began on December 28th, with a strike by traders at Tehran's bazaar due to deteriorating living conditions, but it quickly turned into a widespread protest movement with political slogans, including calls for the overthrow of the regime that has been in power since 1979.
