The European Aviation Safety Agency recommends avoiding Iranian airspace

Khaberni  -   The European Aviation Safety Agency urged airlines to avoid Iranian airspace, amidst threats from the United States to the country.

The agency stated in a release: "The presence of a large variety of weapons and air defense systems, and the potential for their use, as well as unpredictable reactions from the state… all pose a significant risk to civil flights operating at all altitudes and flight levels," according to what Reuters reported.

The agency warned of the increased risks of aircraft being inadvertently targeted in Iranian airspace in the context of ongoing tension and the potential for the United States to undertake military action, which has put Iranian air defense forces on high alert.

Flight tracking site data showed that European airlines, including Wizz Air, Lufthansa, and British Airways, avoided flying over Iran and Iraq yesterday, Thursday, despite the reopening of the airspace.

It should be noted that Reuters had previously reported from residents and a human rights organization in Iran that protests there had decreased in recent days.

The protests that erupted in late December were due to deteriorating economic conditions and rising inflation, before expanding and turning into one of the largest waves of unrest Iran has faced in recent years.
