Khaberni - A tragic incident that shocked many occurred in one of the provinces of Upper Egypt after a 20-year-old young woman died when her father detained her in a dark room and deprived her of food and drink, highlighting domestic violence and the need for deterrent sanctions.
According to Egyptian media reports, the father detained his daughter in a dark room and deprived her of food and drink after discovering she visited her mother without his permission, leading to her last breath from hunger and dehydration.
The initial medical report of the young woman indicated severe malnutrition before the father completely denied any connection to what happened to her.
According to investigations by the Egyptian authorities, a dispute occurred between the girl’s parents ten years ago, leading the mother to divorce and move to live with her mother, leaving her daughter with her father.
The investigations added that the girl had been moving between her parents until her father began to refuse her visits to her mother's house, which led to her visit without his knowledge, fearing physical abuse from him.
The investigations indicated that upon learning of his daughter’s visit to her mother, he assaulted her and restrained her as a form of punishment, which prompted her to file a report at the police station against him before they settled their disputes.
The investigations mentioned that a few days prior to her death, the girl visited her mother, and upon finding out, her father detained her again and deprived her of food and drink, claiming it was a form of discipline. After a few days, she passed away, and the father was arrested.
According to Egyptian newspapers, the father remains in jail pending the conclusion of investigations and the issuance of the final forensic report on the cause of his daughter’s death.
