Egypt Suspension of the decision to close public shops commercial centers and restaurants at 11 PM

Khaberni - Egypt lifted the energy consumption rationalization measures imposed last month to address the fallout from the energy crisis caused by the war in Iran, and announced on Sunday the suspension of the decision to close commercial shops at exactly 11 PM local time (8 PM GMT).

The Egyptian Cabinet stated in a released statement that "the central crisis management committee approved during its meeting today the suspension of the decision to close public shops, commercial centers, and restaurants at exactly 11 PM, returning to the normal timings previously in place."

In March 2026, the Egyptian authorities decided to close stores, restaurants, and shopping centers from 9 PM on weekdays, except Thursdays and Fridays, to face the rising fuel prices which more than doubled due to the war on Iran.

The Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly previously noted that Egypt's monthly energy bill was 560 million dollars before the war, while it amounts to 1.65 billion dollars today for the same quantity.
