Khaberni - On Thursday, Dr. Azmi Governorate, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the University Student Support Fund in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will finish paying off all the debts it owes to the official Jordanian universities by the end of the current year, 2026. These debts amount to approximately (80) million Jordanian dinars, accumulated by the fund due to the expansion in the number of students covered by university scholarships and loans in previous years, especially during the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Minister Governorate added that the remaining amount of the total debt is about (14) million Jordanian dinars, which will be repaid to the universities before the end of the current year 2026.
On another note, Minister Governorate stated that the year 2026 will also witness the allocation of (40) million Jordanian dinars as direct government support to the universities. Traditionally, in past years, this amount was provided to the universities in exchange for the university fees for students eligible for scholarships and loans, and it is expected that these measures will positively reflect on these universities' budgets, in addition to reducing their debt.
Minister Governorate also valued the efforts of the Ministry of Finance in cooperating with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in providing the necessary financial allocations for this purpose over the past years.
