Khaberni - A shocking video spread on social media showing rats moving and frolicking freely in the orthopedic surgery wing of a government medical hospital in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, India, raising serious concerns about cleanliness and patient safety.
One of the resident patients recorded the video, documenting the rodents roaming near the patient beds and beside oxygen tubes, while other patients are seen lying in their beds, with the recording dating approximately two days before it was widely spread.
After reviewing the video, the regional governor Priyanka Nirangan took immediate action, officially rebuking the medical college's director, Professor Dananjay Srikant Kotastan, and ordered urgent steps to address the situation, as reported by "news9live".
In response, the hospital administration immediately carried out pest control spraying in the orthopedic surgery department and other wings of the hospital, while the director announced an official investigation to determine responsibilities.
Professor Kotastan explained that the rats are attracted by the food brought by the patients' relatives to the wards, affirming that the administration will not tolerate any negligence related to patient safety.
The incident sparked widespread political criticism, with the Congress Party sharing the video and criticizing the state government, describing the hospital as it seems "prepared for rats, not humans," which indicates the deteriorating health conditions in government facilities.
