Khaberni - The head of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, said on Tuesday that the municipality deals with different emergency situations every rainy season, pointing out that the recent rainfall events have been severe and unusual.
Al-Shawarbeh added, in statements to "Al-Mamlaka" channel, that after every atmospheric depression, all the situations faced by the municipality are monitored, especially the rising water levels in various locations, where specialized teams begin to study water gathering places in order to establish fundamental solutions to prevent their recurrence in the future.
He explained that the capital Amman recently witnessed a rise in water levels in more than one location, where the Amman Municipality operations room received about 33 reports that were dealt with immediately, noting that some of these cases are temporary, while others require fundamental and permanent solutions.
He confirmed that within the city of Amman there are sites that need fundamental solutions, in addition to cases that are exceptional or momentary due to large amounts of rainfall, clarifying that the city of Amman is witnessing continuous growth and expansion, which leads to the transfer of services to the outskirts and increases the pressure on infrastructure and services within the city.
He mentioned that the staff of the Amman Municipality monitors each case individually and studies it to devise strategic solutions, explaining that some solutions can be implemented during the current rainy season, while other solutions will be implemented in the upcoming period due to their need for planning and construction work, in addition to quick solutions that are dealt with immediately, and in a professional and expert manner, avoiding the approach of "panic."
Al-Shawarbeh pointed out that the Amman Municipality operates at full capacity during weather conditions, with about 4600 employees distributed over 3 shifts in the field to serve the citizens, in addition to operating about 2000 machinery across different areas of the capital, confirming that the municipality deals with unusually intense rainfall events that were witnessed in several locations.
Al-Shawarbeh reaffirmed that despite the recorded rise in water levels in some areas, "Amman has never flooded, is not flooding, and will never flood."
