United Nations 21 million people suffer from severe food insecurity in Sudan

Khaberni - The latest United Nations data indicates that 9.3 million people in Sudan remain displaced, and more than 4.3 million have fled across the borders, which puts immense pressure on neighboring countries, and more than 21 million people are suffering from severe food insecurity.

The United Nations agencies have reiterated the harsh reality with the passing of a thousand days of unrest in Sudan, from the largest hunger crisis to the biggest emergency displacement in the world, along with a large number of deaths, injuries, and disabled individuals.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that Sudan has slid into one of the worst humanitarian crises of this century.

According to UNICEF, nearly 5000 children are displaced daily since the conflict began in April 2023.

The UNICEF spokesperson, Ricardo Peres, said: "Many of them have been displaced not just once but repeatedly, as violence follows them wherever they flee."

For its part, the International Organization for Migration said that nearly a third of the Sudanese population has been displaced during the conflict period, which accounts for more than 15 million people, including 11.58 million internally displaced within Sudan and about 4 million who fled across the borders at the height of the crisis.
