Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II, in Al Husseinieh Palace on Thursday, received European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, to participate in the first bilateral summit between Jordan, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince.
The summit focused on ways to consolidate political and economic cooperation between Jordan and the European Union within the framework of the strategic and comprehensive partnership that was signed between the two sides last year, and discussed the most significant developments at both regional and international levels.
The strategic partnership covers five main pillars: political relations and regional cooperation, security and defense, economic resilience and trade and investment, human capital, migration and protection, and support for refugees.
The partnership is based on a financial and investment package for the period 2025–2027, estimated at about 3 billion euros, including; 640 million euros in grants, 1 billion euros in concessional loans (total financial assistance), in addition to approximately 1.4 billion euros in additional investments.
European Council President Antonio Costa, on Thursday, stated that holding the first summit between the European Union and Jordan in Amman is a pivotal milestone in the course of bilateral relations, and reflects the strength of the partnership between the two sides.
Costa added, via the (X) platform, that the summit comes a year after the launch of the strategic and comprehensive partnership, which has begun to translate into tangible results on the ground, emphasizing that both sides are reviewing the achievements made on Thursday, and pushing forward towards deepening cooperation and expanding partnership opportunities to enhance convergence between the European Union and Jordan.
The partnership also focuses on supporting Jordan's stability amid exceptional geopolitical challenges, promoting political, economic, and administrative modernization, and enhancing economic resilience.
The strategic and comprehensive partnership is based on a longstanding relationship based on the partnership agreement since 2002 and the Jordanian-European Partnership Priorities (2021–2027). The latest meeting of the Partnership Council between the European Union and Jordan was held on July 15, 2024. King also met with Costa in Brussels to discuss relations on January 29, 2025, and again on September 21, 2025, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
