Khaberni - The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that Rome has begun the repatriation of dozens of its nationals stranded on Yemen's Socotra Island, and the first flight carrying 46 tourists is scheduled to arrive in Jeddah on Wednesday.
There are still 59 Italians on the island, and their return is expected aboard additional flights in the coming days, as authorities work with Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The Saudi authorities will grant the Italians a four-day transit visa to help facilitate their return to their home country.
Socotra has remained a haven of peace during the years of conflict in Yemen, located more than 300 kilometers south of the Yemeni coast.
