Khaberni - The director of the Koura district archeological office, Khaled Al-Janaydeh, confirmed that the historic Audah Mill in Wadi Rayan in Jdeita is operating normally, and there are no obstacles affecting its operation.
Al-Janaydeh said that the Koura archaeological office, in collaboration with the Barqash municipality, has conducted maintenance on the roof of the Audah Mill to protect it from weather conditions and rain.
He added that the mill is ready to grind grains, but the development of milling machines has transformed it into a historic and heritage site. The building dates back to the early Ottoman period. He noted that Audah Mill operates on water power to grind grains and has been operated several times in front of visiting delegations to the mill.
Al-Janaydeh explained that restoration work is carried out on the mill from time to time, as part of the efforts to preserve heritage sites and historical landmarks in the area and to enhance the historical and tourist value of archaeological sites, in alignment with the directions of the General Department of Antiquities.
Audah Mill is one of the earliest mills in the Middle East, built in the year 1596, and operates on the force of water. It is located in one of the most beautiful areas surrounding the town of Jdeita, where there are ancient olive trees of Al-Mahras and pomegranates that many families in the area rely on for their livelihood.
