Iranian Foreign Ministry Calls on the United States to Release Maduro

Khaberni - Iran demanded on Monday the release of President Nicolas Maduro, who was arrested by a US force in Caracas and transferred to New York for trial, in a major and surprising military operation.

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bqa'i, said at a weekly press conference in Tehran, "A head of state has been kidnapped, and this is an illegal act that is not at all a source of pride. The Venezuelan president must be released."

Iran, which has close ties with Venezuela, confirmed that its relations with it will remain unchanged despite Maduro's removal from power.

Bqa'i added, "Our relationships with any country have been and will remain based on mutual respect and shared interests, and this principle will also be the basis of our relationships in the future."

Bqa'i confirmed that communications with Venezuelan officials continue.
